In honor of breast cancer awareness month, Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) and local partner organizations launched the Pink October campaign encouraging women to get routine breast and cervical cancer screenings, available for free at 21 health centers across the city of Bamako, Mali. The campaign spread the message that annual screenings, supplemented by regular self-exams, increase the chances of early cancer diagnosis and treatment.
MSF has been providing support and palliative care to cancer patients in Point G University Hospital in Bamako since 2018. In partnership with local health authorities, our teams are now working to provide access to screenings, diagnostics, and treatment for breast and cervical cancer, as well as trainings to teach local midwives how to screen patients.
