LVIV, Ukraine, April 8, 2022—Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) has started managing medical evacuations by train for hospitalized patients from eastern Ukraine. Since April 1, MSF staff have transported 57 patients from Ukraine's Luhansk region to western Ukraine by train.
Christopher Stokes, MSF emergency coordinator in Ukraine, issued the following statement today following reports of the bombing of a train station in Kramatorsk:
"I am horrified by reports of bombing or missile strike today on Kramatorsk station. We were there yesterday, and we saw hundreds of people crowding the station, trying to leave. The hospitals had been urgently calling us to evacuate their patients by train. Most came from Sievierodonetsk and other towns in Luhansk region. We were just in time with this train. It is a big question whether we will be able to evacuate more people."
