Daniela, a 19-year-old trans woman from Guatemala, has been running her whole life. Thrown out of her home as a young child, she says she began working as a prostitute from the age of 10. She was repeatedly subjected to violence, abuse, and threats, and eventually fled her country to save her life. She found support and care at the La 72 shelter in Mexico. “I felt more accepted in a foreign country than in my own country,” she says. Daniela shared her story of survival with Doctors Without Borders for World Refugee Day 2019.
